Fred's Rock Shop

Fred’s Rock Shop is a working lapidary and rock shop on Pine Banks Road in Putney, Vermont. Owner Fred started out hauling buckets of beach stones home and figuring out how to make them shine dry as well as wet. Years of tumbling and polishing later, the shop now stocks hundreds of varieties, nearly all tumbled right on site. Rock polishing runs in the family, too: his grandfather and great-grandfather worked in the granite sheds of Barre.
Inside you’ll find drawers and trays of polished tumbled stones, palm stones, hearts and spheres, rough crystal and mineral specimens such as azurite, malachite and fluorite, and handcrafted jewelry including gemstone bracelets, pendants and earrings. Fred also offers custom lapidary work, a tumbling service and supplies for hobbyists.
Walk-ins are welcome on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm, and you can book a visit any other day by calling or texting (802) 376-7313. The last stretch of road is gravel but fine for a regular car. You can also shop online at fredsrockshop.com.
