Books, Beans, and Candles

Books, Beans, and Candles bills itself as Alabama's oldest and largest metaphysical and occult shoppe, and it sits on Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard South in Birmingham's Southside. The shelves carry crystals and tumbled stones alongside metaphysical and occult books, hand-poured candles, herbs, incense, spellcraft supplies and tarot decks, so it works as a one-stop shop for both beginners and long-time practitioners.

The shop is also a community hub. A team of in-house readers offers tarot, runes, astrology, I-Ching and aura photography, and readings can be booked online. Regular events include Tea and Tarot on the first Friday of each month, Sips and Stars on the third Friday, and a monthly Magic City Pagans lecture, plus seasonal psychic fairs and guest classes.

There is a small parking lot on the right side of the building. Gift cards and shop apparel are available, and you can call ahead at (205) 453-4636 to check stock or reserve a spot at an upcoming event.
